Creating a Black & White Image

I know it’s not the 50’s anymore, but Black & White images are very nice, even these days. In Picasa you can turn a colorful photo into a dull, yet beautiful Black & White picture. Some people actually like how they look in Black & White more than they enjoy themselves in a colorful photo, but seeing that it’s beside the point, we will move on now. Please open up Google Picasa and wait for it to load up. Once you have opened up the program, you will see all of your images that you have added to the program from your computer.

Similar to other tutorials, you will browse through all of the images that you want to edit. We will only be talking about one image right now, so if you want to add more than one image, please return back once I have added one. Once you have chosen your image, you will see a blue highlighted rectangle around the selected image which will tell you that it’s toggled. Double click it.

Once you have double clicked the image, a new window will pop up, and yes it’s a similar screen to what we have seen in the past. The “Basic Fixes” window will pop up and you will look to the left of the window and click the Effects tab. Please move on to the next step.

In this next step, there are plenty of options in the Effects tab, but we will choose only one this time. The third option to the right of the left side is the B&W tab, please click on it. It is next to the Sharpen and Sepia buttons. No matter what image you select, the B&W feature will do the dirty work. You will see a great difference in the image and it will either make you really happy or really unhappy, whatever the case may be, it turns the image to total Black & White.
